About
Hi, I’m Katherine. I live in rural Upstate New York in a nineteenth century farmhouse with my husband, Bill; our two rescue dogs, Rex and Ella; and a former stray cat named Oliver. Before moving to the countryside and meeting my husband, I grew up in New England, graduated from the University of Vermont, and spent the first decade of my adult life climbing the corporate ladder in technology services at a Fortune 100 company and later a Big 5 consulting firm. I spent so much time traveling for work and putting in crazy hours that I didn’t really have any hobbies or a creative outlet. For a while, seeing new cities and experiencing fancy restaurants and swank hotels scratched that itch, but eventually I found myself wanting more.
I was a 28-year-old singleton when I bought the Farmhouse on the Pond, along with nearly five acres of land, and sometimes when I look back I can’t believe I did it. The things I didn’t know that I didn’t know about owning and maintaining an old house could fill a book! But I survived and embraced major renovations, landscaping, gardening, home cooking, and a wide array of crafty activities. Gradually I filled my house with antique furniture and art, pet hair, and eventually my husband’s truly impressive collection of sci-fi novels and vintage board games. Now I want to share everything that I’ve learned. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions about any of the recipes or instructionals I’ve published. I spend most weekdays in the company of non-verbal, four-legged companions, so I’m always happy to make a new two-legged friend!
